The Sumac Centre has celebrated its 25th Anniversary .

Start 2027 with a vision of the next 25years.

Key Points from the Sunday 23rd August 2026 Sumac Visioning Meeting

• Importance of consensus decision making

• We should involve other groups

• Some young people love the space both as a social venue and a place to organize activism, but many don’t know about it or don’t know how to get involved

• Transparency is important, especially with insurance and boundaries of political action

• We should be considerate of barriers to be involved in visioning processes such as accessibility needs

• Sumac needs to remain a political space while also being accessible to the community – difficult to balance

• We must build personal relationships with the community and each other to be politically effective and build the Centre

• Our relationships should be anarchistic and horizontal. We are all equals

• Sumac should be part of the culture and work with other groups and needs to be part of the Nottingham ecosystem

• Create the legacy of the next generation of activists and be a hub for generations to come

• The Centre should be a safe space for activists and people facing state violence.

• Other groups should be involved in visioning

• For the next meeting we should have a structure for the visioning process and an agenda.
